Bali Detox Holiday – Reset Your Body

A transformative week on the island of Bali can help you reset your body, mind and spirit.

4 Dec 2025

I landed back in Bali with a suitcase full of work-emails and a mind buzzing with a thousand thoughts. You know that kind of “have-to-check-my-phone-every-five-minutes” feeling? I was stuck in it. And that’s when I decided I needed something deeper than a standard holiday, I needed to reset! So I booked myself a detox holiday on the island, and let’s just say it was one of the best decisions I’ve made.

Why Bali, and why a detox?

The words “detox holiday” can sound a little scary or extreme (juice-fast-only, anyone?). But in Bali it didn’t feel like that at all. Instead of deprivation it felt like gentleness: nutrient-rich juices, daily yoga, spa therapies, cultural immersion, and meals that made me feel alive. I stayed in two places that captured this beautifully: The Palm Tree House in Canggu and Blue Karma Dijiwa Ubud in Ubud.

  • At The Palm Tree House you’ve got a boutique, relaxed retreat with detox package options (juice cleanse, yoga, spa treatments) built in.
  • Blue Karma Dijiwa Ubud offers a more immersive reset: cold-pressed juices, raw meals, yoga, even colonic and body treatments as part of a “4-day or more Detox & Yoga” package.

Imagine waking up, stepping out into a tropical garden, doing yoga while the sun rises over rice paddies, then sipping a freshly pressed green juice as the Balinese breeze plays through the palms. That was me, one morning. And though I had come with the idea of “cleansing”, what I found was restoration.

On day two of the detox at Blue Karma Dijiwa, I had a schedule like this:

  • 07:00 yoga class (deep stretch, sun salutations)
  • 08:00 detox juice #1
  • 10:00 detox juice #2 and a morning herbal compress massage
  • 13:30 Boreh class (a traditional warming herbal body wrap)
  • 16:00 more juice
  • 17:00 afternoon yoga by the pool

By the end of that day I felt something shift. My digestion was calmer, the constant mental chatter had quieted, and inadvertently. I had opened WhatsApp to check something and realised I didn’t care that I didn’t respond instantly. The detox programme had given me a buffer, a pause. And that pause turned out to be a gift.

What a full detox week can look like

Here’s a mindset of what to expect, drawn from my experience:

  • Juice cleanse days: Cold-pressed juices replacing some meals (or sometimes all solid food) for one or more days. At Blue Karma for example, days 2 & 3 had mostly juices and no solid meals.
  • Daily yoga & mindfulness: Morning and/or afternoon sessions, often outdoors, sometimes with sound healing or meditation.
  • Spa treatments & body therapies: Think Balinese herbal body wrap (boreh), colonic therapy, hot stone massage, detox wraps.
  • Nutritious meals when eating: When the programme allows solid food you’ll find raw meals, clean cuisine, and options for vegan/gluten-free at The Palm Tree House.
  • Free time for yourself: Not everything is scheduled, part of the magic is the flexibility to be still, explore the island, or hang by the pool.
  • Cultural & island immersion: One afternoon I visited the sacred water temple with the retreat group, learnt to make spirit offerings, and felt how Bali’s cultural depth resonates with a body-reset.
  • Digital reset optional but strong: On a few occasions I turned off my roaming data, left my phone on silent, and simply was. Which brings me to another point.

Why keeping connected (smartly) is still important

Yes, I said “disconnect” but in a good detox holiday, being reachable doesn’t have to mean being tethered. That’s where using a reliable travel eSIM came in handy. Here’s how:

When I booked my trip I installed the ORA eSIM before I even landed in Bali, no need to swap SIM cards, no roaming shock. Having data meant I could:

  • Navigate from the airport to the retreat via Grab/Gojek app smoothly.
  • Check weather or schedule last-minute changes without stress.
  • Stay connected with family/friends “just in case” but toggle my notifications off when I was doing yoga or spa time.
  • Take beautiful photos and upload them at leisure, not because I had to, but because I wanted to.

In short: I stayed in the world, while being liberally outside the world. ORA eSIM gave me that freedom. And when you’re in a detox mindset, freedom makes a big difference.

Tips for Making the Most of It

Here are a few things I learnt so you don’t have to reinvent the wheel:

  • Book flexible dates: The Palm Tree House lets you start any day and stay minimum 4-nights.
  • Clarify your dietary needs ahead: vegan, gluten-free, allergies. I found the kitchen at the retreat super helpful.
  • Bring a “go-off-grid” mindset: Turn off notifications when you’re in a yoga class or spa treatment. Use your phone for practicalities (thanks ORA eSIM) but give yourself permission to pause.
  • Pack light: A yoga mat may be provided, spa-gear usually is, but bring comfortable clothes, a good water bottle, and maybe a journal.
  • Arrival day: Don’t overbook that first evening. Get in, have dinner plus early sleep and you’ll feel much better from day two.
  • Stay hydrated & respect the detox protocol: Your treatments and juices are only as effective as your commitment to rest and drink filtered water.
  • Aftercare: Have a plan for returning, keep up gentle yoga at home, stick with cleaner eating for a few weeks, and give yourself grace if you slip.

FAQs

What exactly is included in a detox holiday in Bali?
It depends on the retreat. For example, Blue Karma Dijiwa’s 4-day detox includes cold-pressed juices, yoga, herbal wraps, and colonic therapy. The Palm Tree House offers daily yoga, healthy meals, spa treatments, and a custom detox plan.

Is it safe to do a juice cleanse and spa treatments while travelling?
Yes! As long as you’re in good health, stay hydrated, and communicate your needs. Most retreats have nutritionists or wellness experts to guide you safely.

Should I keep my phone / mobile data while on a detox holiday?
Absolutely! Stay connected for safety and logistics, you just choose how to use it. Many guests limit social media but keep data for essentials.

What time of year is best for a detox holiday in Bali?
All year round! The dry season (April–October) is ideal for outdoor yoga, while the rainy season offers a calmer vibe.

What happens after the retreat and how do I maintain the “reset” when I return home?
Keep small habits such as short daily yoga, mindful eating, or digital pauses. Many retreats help you plan post-detox routines.
